There comes a time when you have a little sweet tooth craving that you have to scratch. But, how do you keep it healthy? Here are some of our favorite quick snacks that you will love.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Don’t panic! These cookies are not designed to break your healthy habits. Making a healthy alternative to chocolate chip cookies can help take away those sweet cravings. As far as your taste buds are concerned, these are the regular sugar-filled versions of the cookie. The reality is that they are gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly.
Cheesy Kale Chips
If you need an alternative for chips, then these kale chips could be the answer. Admittedly, these ones take a lot longer to make than popping to the shop, but they are the type of snack that you can make in advance and nibble at for the rest of the week. These vegan chips are a great excuse to invest in a dehydrator (not that you needed an excuse) and they are a great snack to eat on the go.
Mug Cake
This is not the healthiest option on the list but it is one of the quickest to throw together. You don’t even need to preheat the oven, you can ping this in the microwave. This vanilla mug cake is a great base to use and you can alter it to create different tastes. If you have a craving for a warm sponge on a cold day, it can be achieved in less than two minutes.
Shellfish
Has anyone ever picked up a little jar of cockles and gone to town on them? As tasty as they are, eating a jar of pickled shellfish is not the most sophisticated way to eat shellfish. Thankfully, they are low in fat and high in Omega-3. These might not be the prettiest little snacks, but they are one of the healthiest.
Fruit and Nuts
Making your own fruit and nut mix is another great way to get plenty of protein and reduce the number of nasties that you eat. Dehydrated fruit can come in many different forms. And if you invested in that dehydrator, the sky's the limit with your choices. The important thing to remember is that the nuts you mix through the fruit should be plain nuts.
Pickled Pears
This is an unusual one but stay with us for a moment. Pickled pears are having a comeback as a great idea to add to the cheeseboard. But you don’t need cheese to enjoy a pickled pear. These sweet yet tangy treats can be added to anything, including vegan ice-cream. Or, you can munch them straight out of the jar like the cockles, preferably not at the same time.
There are many alternatives to grabbing a bag of sweets and finding some balance. Some of these suggestions require a bit of prep work but overall they are all available for a quick snack within a few minutes. So the next time you are craving a snack, think of the alternatives that you have in your cupboards.
