When you are a single person, there always seems to be plenty of money floating around. Even if you are not that rich, there is always money. However, when you get married and have kids, it doesn’t seem to matter how much money you make, it seems to magically disappear. There are some ways to make your money go a bit further (maybe in your Evolve Bank & Trust bank account) if you know where to look.
Take a Course
A lot of people don’t seem to realize that they can take a financial course to help improve their understanding of how their money works. You can even take stock market classes if you want to. People are becoming more aware of how their money works and how they can make it work better for them. It is a good idea to invest in this type of knowledge because it is your money. Even if you only work out how to balance your bank account better, you will still have a skill that will help you for life.
Find Coupons
When you have kids, they seem to inhale food at an alarming rate. Did we ever eat that much as kids? In order to help maintain the fridge, it is a good idea to learn about coupons. There are a lot of companies that offer coupons that you can add to your shopping and help bag some discounts. Sometimes you find some real bargains, sometimes they are on items that you can do without. It helps to be mindful about the offers you take on so that you are not wasting money on things that people won’t use or eat.
Compare Your Bills
How much are you paying for your bills? The electric bill can be sky-high, the gas is a horror story, and don’t even think about the internet bill. If you are feeling this way about your bills, you need to have a hard look at what you are paying for and see if there is an option to switch it out to another provider. You could end up saving hundreds of dollars every year with a couple of phone calls. Let’s be honest, a lot of people don’t like to switch their bills because it is a hassle, but if it will save you money it will be worth it.
Curb Expenses
This is one that a lot of people have trouble with because they like the things that they spend their money on. However, there comes a stage when you have to think about what you are spending your money on. It is hard if you are trying to buy essential items knowing that you have wasted money the week before on a takeaway meal. If you want to buy something, you need to stop and ask yourself if you really need it or if you just want it. If you need it, then you should get it. If you want it, then you might want to wait a while and see if the desire is still there in a week or two.
Make a Budget
You can't control what you don't see. Knowing what flows into your bank account and what comes out, where it goes, and what types of expenses are taking up most of your cashflow are essential pieces of information to have. Before you try anything fancy, make sure you have this essential basic in place!
