Summer is here and, after so many months spent indoors, we are all ready to make the most of the good weather and sunny days outdoors.

However, summer is also the season to take care of our health and wellbeing - and where else should you start if not from creating the right home environment? After all, we all spend much longer than we realize within our four walls.

With the right tips, you won’t just be able to create a home environment that helps you reach your health goals - but also help you make the most of the exciting season ahead. Here’s what to keep in mind.

Enhance Your Home’s Natural Light

Whether your home is blessed with large French windows, floor-to-ceiling patio doors, and skylights or not, each property has a unique light signature that it is worth using. You might have only a few windows, or your home could be facing east or west. Nonetheless, there is always something you can do to create the light effect you desire.

Since natural light is vital to protect your physical and mental health, you should not think twice about introducing the changes necessary to enhance your home’s unique light signature. These include swapping the curtains for lighter versions and introducing strategically placed mirrors.

Bring Nature In

We are all surrounded by everyday household products - but the type of products you opt for can make a difference. Plastic and single-use items are not only unnecessarily filling up your home, but they are also harmful to the environment.

At the same time, it is essential for everyone to rebuild their long-lost relationship with nature - starting by letting it inside your home! From houseplants to natural materials, organic fabrics, and sustainable products, there are endless ways to make your home healthier and more sustainable.

Improve Your Home’s Indoor Air Quality

We often don’t realize how important our home’s indoor air quality is for our health. However, according to the EPA, agents such as pollutants, chemicals, smoke, volatile organic compounds, and biological compounds such as molds can be extremely detrimental to our health.

That is why it is vital to let in as much fresh air and light as possible, use plants to purify indoor air and keep humidity levels in check.

And, as soon as you spot an issue that is beyond your power, make sure to call a professional - such as a Mold Removal Company - to take care of the issue and restore your home’s environmental health.

Embrace Minimalism

Clutter can have a worse effect on our brain and physical health than you would guess. It can cause us to work much harder to focus and relax and can substantially increase our stress levels.

After the added pressure that we have felt over the past few months, it is essential that your home environment is the right one for you to relax, work on your wellbeing, and focus on important goals. Minimalism can help you reduce clutter, build a much healthier environment, and make it a lot easier for you to keep the home clean and free of clutter - a win-win!

Liz (or Dr. Mommy, as her toddler started calling her after learning what a PhD was) is the happily sleep-deprived mom of a toddler (and professional raccoon noise impersonator), a sparkle-clad kidnado, a teenage stepdaughter, 200 cumulative pounds of dog, and herd of dustbunnies (if daily vacuuming doesn't occur). During nights and naptimes, she uses her PhD in business psychology as an author, speaker, and consultant. She also serves as an executive and principal for three companies, two of which she co-founded with her very patient (and equally exhausted) husband.
