Introduction
There are many difficulties that an infant faces when they take birth. Understanding the environment can be quite confusing to them, and they are often uncomfortable due to several reasons. If you are wondering when do babies start teething? You should know that there is no specific age. It can happen at any time between 4 to 12 months. The process is very painful, the mouth becomes extremely sensitive, and it is difficult to feed them often. You will find babies crying a lot in pain during the baby teething process.
What Can You Do for Your Child During Teething?
You know it is time for teething when your kid starts to chew on things. The most common target is their blanket. Teething age usually starts around 4 to 6 months after birth. If their gums and mouth area is not taken care of properly, the baby may refuse to eat and may become very restless. We will tell you how you can help your newborn during this process.
1. Cool it Down
It is common knowledge that cold surfaces and objects can minimize pain efficiently. You can use this trick with your baby as well. Put their teether in a refrigerator and freeze it. When you give it to your baby, the cool teether will soothe his or her gums and reduce the pain.
2. Gum Massage
The gums are the most affected area during teething. Massaging gums make the muscles flexible, and the teeth can penetrate the skin on the gum easily. Use your fingers carefully within your baby’s mouth and rub the gums gently. Give your child a baby teething massage to ease the pain.
3. Feed and Soothe
You can feed your newborn frozen fruits, mashed into a pulp. The main aim is to lower the temperature of the mouth. Cooler the object is, the better it can manage pain. You can use this technique with different types of food.
4. Try Out Teethers
Try different teething toys. When a baby is experiencing pain, chewing on an object soothes the irritation. Give your kid teether that they can chew on. Nowadays, there is a wide variety of top baby gear on the market, so be sure, you will find a teether suitable for your baby, as they all come in different materials, colors, and shapes.
5. Dry the Drool
When babies are teething, they tend to drool a lot. If you do not keep the mouth area clean, the drool can damage your baby’s skin and even cause rashes. Irritation due to the drooling irritates your baby even more. Use a soft washcloth to wipe your baby’s mouth whenever you can.
6. Use A Distraction
With children, distractions work miraculously. When your baby is suffering from the gum ache, play with him. This will distract him and shift his attention from the pain to you. You can also introduce him to new toys.
7. Medicate (In Extreme Cases)
Though using the medicine on your children does not sound too thrilling, it is sometimes the only option. Something the pain is so severe that the child starts suffering from teething fever. If your baby is 3 months old or older, you can use mild medicines that will help with the pain.
8. Frozen Milk Lollies
You can give your kid popsicles that are made of breastmilk or ordinary milk. The milk will provide nutrition, and the low temperature will numb the pain and provide relief to your baby.
9. Biscuits for Teething
There are special teething biscuits available for children who suffer from gum ache. These biscuits help ease the pain. Babies can chew on this biscuit when they need to chew on something.
10. Extra Love and Cuddles
Growing baby teeth is a painful process. During this time, your child will require a lot of attention and extra care. Make sure you spend a lot of time with him or her. The more you interact with your baby, the lesser attention they will pay to the pain.
Summary
