Father's Day is a special day to celebrate the dads in our lives. As a dad of two boys, I really look forward to spending the day with them and just having fun! It can be a time to spend with dad, or to show him how much we appreciate all he does for us. If you're looking for a creative way to help your kids show how much they love him, why not try making him a gift?
It seems kind of silly to think about, but helping your kids make a DIY gift can be a fun, affordable way to show dad just how much he is loved and appreciated. Sometimes we think too critically about what will make the perfect gift for dad instead of thinking about what they will enjoy or appreciate. The days of gifting golf balls and a new neck tie are over, and rightfully so. It's because dads today and much different than the previous generation.
Your Husband Isn't Like Your Dad
Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist and professor at Golden Gate University, conducted an experiment on this issue. In her study, the influence a father has in a family dynamic has changed dramatically. Modern dads aren't pipe smokers in silk robes sipping scotch alone while mom takes care of everything else in the house.
Today, us dads are far more at ease revealing a raw, emotional closeness with kids and families that previous generations would have been judged as weak or unable to give. Since today's dads are more open and involved with their children on a daily basis, Yarrow claims that kids nowadays desire to show their father great respect and offer him gifts.
And it doesn't have to be the latest tech gadget every time. Even a simple craft gift can go a long way and leave a lasting impression with the dad in your life.
