Getting Organized: Kids' Rooms

Every day will become a struggle if you are consistently cleaning up your kid’s room. A child's room is usually the eye of the storm when it comes to the destruction of clean spaces. When you organize a kids room it can be difficult when you know the kids are just going to pull everything back out eventually.

That's why I have found ways to help it make it so much easier.

Whether you live in a large or a small house, these tactics will help make a room easier to keep tidy and neat. Kids will be kids after all so let's make it easier for the parents at the end of the day.

When it comes to cleaning and organizing your child’s room, the first thing that usually comes to mind is their clothes. This is the major starting point for their room. They end up everywhere if you stay busy or they can get into it. That is why all of my kids' clothes stay in the laundry room.

I know it sounds bizarre, but it is one of the best things that have happened to my household.

Once a week either we let them pick out their outfits for each day or if they are too young, you can set it out for them each week.

You can even make racks to hold their clothes, one rack per child. Or buying some racks to put up in there is easy as well.

Secondly, I bought an outdoor storage container to hold each child's toys in. The box I use is a 50-gallon box because my kids have a lot of toys, but you can buy different sizes according to your needs. Even though I am a very organized person, this is the best tactic that makes for an easy cleanup each night with all the smaller toys. Trying to put up each car in the right spot or every small piece of a doll in a specific spot gets old fast.

Take it all and put it in the box. Once in the box, you can close it up and it stays looking all nice and neat.

They will just pull it all back out the next day, so why stress about it?

Next on the agenda would have to be stuffed animals. I found the easiest storage for any and all stuffed animals. It is a cheap net that you can hang in any corner.

It saves space as well as makes it easier.

It holds around 50 of my kids stuffed animals. Also, if they have too many stuffed animals then buy another, they aren't expensive.

I live in a considerably small house, so I know all about maximizing the most out of the space you have.

Here are some ideas to help if you have a small home. I love putting totes under the bed to store the kids extra sheet sets, comforters, blankets, and more can be added as needed. Try taking the cubical totes/baskets and putting them on the top of their closets to store anywhere from extra diapers and wipes to shoes and holiday outfits/buckets. It keeps it neat and hidden away.

Shoes would be next to make an easier day for you. If your child has a lot of shoes like mine, I suggest getting an over the door shoe organizer. It makes it so much easier to find their shoes while also using some unused space. You can organize those however you like.

I usually use the first row for the shoes they will wear that week. I also change my little ones shoes out by season.

Lastly, you need to get their books organized.

Books always end up everywhere so try a system that doesn’t require a lot of effort when picking and cleaning up. Try getting a storage cube or baskets to hang on the wall to hold their books in.

If you use a storage cube to hold their books, they would even have a place to sit and read on it.

This makes for a fast storage option while still looking neat when your little one enjoys pulling out all of their books and strowing them throughout their room or the house.

These are just a few options to get you started on an easier life with kids. Children will be kids so don’t stress when there are going to be messes every single day. Enjoy more of your time with your kids by using some or all of these tips.
