Your Health Can Keep You Happy: Ways To Help Yourself

When we experience chronic health issues, whether it is diabetes, or we are fighting a battle with our weight, we have to remember the impact of our overall health, and how it will impact our lives. But what we tend to do is view health and happiness as two separate things. In fact, being healthy can keep you happy. How can you do this?

Incorporate More Nutrients and Vitamins

We all know that we should be eating healthier, but we don't always know why. But the fact is when you incorporate the right vitamins into your life, is going to have a positive impact on your health, so you feel better in yourself. The right nutrients will help you to regulate your moods, but they will also help to minimize your fatigue, which won't bring you down as much. The big problem most of us have is that we cannot incorporate enough goodness into our diets. But juicing is one of the great ways to have fruits and vegetables in your diet. Cold press juicers like on goodnature.com come in a variety of different designs, and if you have a juicer in your life, it can be a wonderful way to have more of that goodness, so you can have a juice while you are on the go or use it as a replacement for soft drinks.

Eat More Whole Foods

Whole foods can actually improve your mood because they can reduce depressive symptoms. For example, people that eat a Mediterranean diet rich in vegetables, fish, and olive oil have reported less depression. And this is particularly down to the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, and monosaturated fatty acids found in olive oil, which have been thought to help the mood-regulating chemical serotonin bind to receptors. When you start to add more of this into your life, in combination with more whole-grain foods, which improve your gut bacteria, this will show just how much you can change your life.

Spend More Time Outdoors

If you spend more time out of nature, this can have a massive difference in your outlook. An article on sharp.com shows that being outdoors can improve your happiness and reduce your stress, which has been shown to improve your quality of life. But specifically, people who go exercising in more natural environments have less cortisol, which is known as the stress hormone. Comparing this to people who live in a large city, people who are outdoors in nature tend to be happier and healthier.

When we experience chronic health problems, learning to survive can prove difficult. However, when you start to look at your health as a key component to your happiness, rather than it being separate, you will see that when you make significant changes to your health, your outlook automatically alters. Your health will keep you happy, and where do you are going through something like diabetes, or even experience times of anxiety or stress, your health will definitely keep you happier.

Liz (or Dr. Mommy, as her toddler started calling her after learning what a PhD was) is the happily sleep-deprived mom of a toddler (and professional raccoon noise impersonator), a sparkle-clad kidnado, a teenage stepdaughter, 200 cumulative pounds of dog, and herd of dustbunnies (if daily vacuuming doesn't occur). During nights and naptimes, she uses her PhD in business psychology as an author, speaker, and consultant. She also serves as an executive and principal for three companies, two of which she co-founded with her very patient (and equally exhausted) husband.
