Is It Safe If Your Baby Moves Around A Lot In Their Sleep?

Parents often worry about their baby moving around in their cot at night. Some babies are very active and they will roll around all over the place, which can cause some problems. The first thing to remember is that moving around is perfectly normal and it's not necessarily an issue. However, if it is disrupting their sleep or they are banging their head against the bars of the cot because they are too active, you do need to take steps to protect them. These are some of the best things you can do.

Use A Baby Sleeping Bag

If your baby moves around a lot and they throw their blankets off, this can be a suffocation hazard. They could come loose from their blanket, which can then wrap over their head while they are asleep and suffocate them. This is why it's so important to use a baby sleeping bag from sites like Foryourlittleone instead of blankets. If you want your baby to stay warm at night, opt for a sleeping bag that will stay secure as they move around and remove the potential dangers that come with blankets.

Install Crib Liners

The risk of your baby banging their head or getting their limbs trapped between the rails on the cot is much greater if they are a very active sleeper, so you need to take steps to protect them. Crib liners or bumpers are a good way to limit the chances of serious accidents, as they can protect your baby's head if they bang it against the bars. These will also protect their limbs from getting trapped between the rails of the cot too. You can find all sorts of designs on crib liners, but there are even models that you can decorate with toys or pictures that will make bedtime fun and exciting for your little one.

Change Their Sleep Schedule

Your baby's sleep schedule has a big impact on their movement during the night. If they are not getting enough sleep during the day, this can cause them to be very restless at night, meaning that they move around a lot more. If this is the case, it's important to look at their routine and make some changes. For example, you can adjust your baby's feeding times or nap times so that they get enough sleep during the day. This will help them to be a lot more content and relaxed at night so that they do not move around as much.

On the other hand, you might need to reduce their nap time during the day. If they are sleeping too much during the day, they won't be as tired at night so they will be more restless.

You should also consider whether there are other changes that are causing them to be more restless. For example, if you have just started night weaning them, they may be a bit more agitated at night. Sometimes, you just have to wait until the transitional period is over and then they will settle again.

You don't necessarily need to worry if your baby is active at night, but you should take these steps to make sure that they are safe and comfortable.
